Most bodybuilders, including many very very successful amateurs make absolutely no money from bodybuilding. They work ordinary jobs. Some of these might be connected to the fitness industry (eg. Personal training), others might be perfectly ordinary jobs like being a truck driver or whatever.

Sources of income for those at the top of the sport (or those very good at marketing themselves) might include sponsorships by supplement or equipment brands, product endorsements, acting as affiliates etc. A handful of people are really good at this and make some really serious money.

Prize money for anything apart from the very top contests is an irrelevance. Apart from the very top contests, it wonâ€™t cover the drugs bill needed to hit the top.
